Fairy Gardens and Dream Pillows

When we think of the fairies, we often visualize them as tiny, supernatural beings with wings and glowing with uncommon light. They also possess some sort of magical powers, like Tinkerbell in Peter Pan or the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella. So, what are these fairies? Where do they come from? What do they do?
